Introduction to Ashtanga with Jill

  • YOGABLOOM Pfluggässlein 1 Basel, BS, 4001 Switzerland (map)

The Primary Series of Ashtanga, called Yoga Chikitsa (translation: Yoga Therapy) in Sanskrit, is a dynamic and effective sequence of postures. Designed to send the practitioner on the path of healing, this specific and more ‘traditional’ approach to yoga consists of a set series of postures directly linked to breathing technique (Pranayama) and focus/gazing points (Dristi). As a background to other yoga forms, Ashtanga is a physically challenging practice but also highly adaptable. This workshop will help you build a solid foundation and understanding to the sequence, so that you can progress in your practice over time and at your own pace while building strength and flexibility. Whether you are ready to start a new yoga practice or you are ready for a refresh you can join us in digging deeper into the foundation of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

Meet Jill Williamson…

There is always more to learn and discover and I’m constantly on that path in my daily Ashtanga practice. I love sharing these and other learnings with fellow yoga practitioners, encouraging their own discoveries.

I've been a student of yoga since 2002 and was first certified to teach in 2005 in the US, before moving to Basel. I began teaching here in 2013 and completed an AYI advanced study with Dr. Ronald Steiner at Ashtanga Yoga Info between 2015 and 2018. Currently certified as an AYI Expert, I attend continuing education annually. I also take every opportunity to learn from multiple advanced Ashtanga teachers. Some of my best lessons have also come from a complete shoulder operation in 2018, my husband of 20+ years and my three children.

I am a member of the Schweizer Yogaverband and a certified RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance.
